Windscreens for DPA 4021
« on: July 24, 2019, 10:29:49 PM »
Good evening!
I need to find a new windscreen for my DPA 4021 set.
The current ones I use are, I think, DUA0020: "Small Windscreen for 19mm (0.75in) Microphone".
I use them interchangeably with schoeps caps.

Well, one went awol after a show last week, and even WITH these foam screens, outdoor wind can be a bitch.

Does anyone have any better ideas or a different maker? The DUA0020 seems to be $20 each and special order. Does anyone have a better source than B&H?

That's it. It was an easy one tonight!

These <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R9ZW9GS/> are way cheaper, and will fit (with a little bit of stretching). Can't say anything about how they do the job compared to the DUA0020

These also fit <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YHTUCQM/>, sort of ... you might have a hard time fitting the mics into whatever mount system you use (XY ain't gonna work, that's for sure!)

Thanks!
I read that thee movo screens are really effective and thought about those.
The wind up here can get pretty intense. Right now I use a furry head over the foam, but even that can’t stop some of the wind.

It’s annoying, because I run a set of dpa4061s along side of the 4021s and the tiny caps with their tiny little foam screens are bulletproof.

Sigh.

Thanks again!

These work better outdoors

These are definitely better than the small ones, which are almost useless in anything but a slight breeze. The big ones will get wind noise with big gusts thought. I have a pair of dead rats I use over these in the link above that make them extremely effective.

I would NOT use the DPA UA0896 screens mentioned above in a windy, open taping situation.  The Movo screens are a much better choice outdoors in my opinion.  I'm sure that dead rats would help with the bigger DPA screens but I would never use those DPA UA0896 screens outdoors again based on my past experience with them.

I'm afraid to ask what happened! I think they are just too big and worry that they'll muffle the sound...

Agree 100%!  The dpa's do fine indoors with a big ass fan but I don't trust them outside.  I've gotten noise when it was barely windy.  I use to use BAS (Big Ass Shure) but have switched to the Movo's.  Work great, smaller and cheaper than BAS.

I have to agree here. I have been fine outdoors with Movo furry screens. The DPA UA0896 are indoor mnor fan protection at best.

Dammit this is too hard!

I'm going to go try some Movo. The price is right but I can't figure out which one is the right one! Too many choices:

Can anyone chime in with a model # or link? Sorry to be so stupid, but there's a furry one, a foamy one and a furry rigid one...

I just want it to be ribbed for her pleasure now.

Thanks!
