Title: Reviving 9V NimH batteries?
Post by: jmz93 on July 07, 2010, 07:14:10 PM
Hi folks. Is there a way to revive some 9.3V NimH batteries I just found in a drawer?  They are completely dead and unfortunately, don't want to take a charge when I insert them into my charger.

Sometimes when a battery is very deeply discharged, it needs to be "kick started" before it can be recharged.  What I do is connect a fully charged battery of the same or slightly higher voltage to the dead battery.  In the case of a 9.3 V battery, I'd use a 9 to 12 V battery.  Connect + to +, - to -, between the batteries.  You only need to connect the batteries for a minute.  Immediately then put the dead battery into the charger.  If this even works, it will take several charge/discharge cycles for the NimH battery to regain some capacity.  Don't expect the battery to be like new, but you may be able to rescue it from its current worthless state.
