Title: Settings for Marantz PMD661 for FOH line out
Post by: checht on November 14, 2023, 05:02:09 PM
Aloha,

A friend has offered his PMD661 for use this weekend, when I can get a line out of the FOH console. Not sure how to set, as I'm used to pro line out reference to +4db, andd the PMD661 manual says:
Line (1/4” / 6.35 mm) Sensitivity: 0 dbu / 4.2kΩ
Line 2 (1/8” / 3.5 mm) Sensitivity: 500 mVrms / 20kΩ

Should I use the 1/4" plus the built in -12dB or -18dB attenuation from the settings? Attenuating cable and 1/8th input?

Recommendation, please 😀

I had forgotten about the 1/4 ins on the PMD661. I picked mine up which sits next to my chair when I am at this PC and they are in the top of the unit next to the XLR ins. I'd take the 1/4" out (it would take two 1/4 inch cables, R + L) and use those 1/4" ins. the unit is forgiving, but I would bet you'll have it set at 2-3 if the FOH signal has any kick to it at all. I have used the 1/8" in for analog feeds but that is cassette to PMD661. More experienced SBD users might have varying input.    8) >:D

The original PMD-661 and the mkII do not have 1/4" inputs. The mark III (essentially the 561 with encryption) does have the combo input. Attenuation setting doesn't apply to line level to my knowledge.
