Every time I think I have seen these setup was either in xy or ortf, usually ortf.  I would say try em all out and see what you think!

DIN, see Carl Beck's tapes for confirmation that these mics are made for DIN  8)

And that was the third option.  I was never a big fan of the 480's until I heard them run DIN.  I still think they sound kind of distant to me, but that might just be me!  Have fun, and let us know what you find works best for YOU!

Try them all ;D
DIN is my fave for these. As others have said Carl Beck's panic and Mule tapes smoke! Scott Cervin has also turned out some very nice tapes running them DIN as well.

Try the shure vert bar.  It worked well for me when I ran 480s.  Remember that vertical displacement isn't as critical as horizontal separation and angle.

Enjoy!

I'm in favor of DIN but xy in a shitty room.  Go to a few shows that you are there to learn from (or make sure you have a second source avail.) and try different configs at each set.

got them in today and tried to screw w/ different configurations and my first thought is damn, they are a whole lot bigger than my mc012s.  the sambrasom is officially useless.  :)

Why not complement your AKG's with an AKG tbar. Perfect for DIN and just about everything else, EXCEPT xy (unless you have it modded  ;)).

Kev,

you should be able to do XY with the AKG bar.  you need to run one mic on top of the bar/ one mic under the bar.

and D.

get the Shure Vertical bar (A27m).  and a pair of AT shockmounts (AT-8410).  too bad this didn't come up earlier, i just sold all three of these parts last month as i never use them anymore.   :-\

Hey guys.  I got a free pair of the gefell ea 20 shocks which look quite solid.  Any info on these?

Daryan

Anyone got a vertical bar for sale?

Your right Scott, my bad. I'm also new to the fact that vertical spacing does'nt make much of a difference.  :)

at8410a's are the most popular shock mounts. They should be around $100/pair new

I have run DIN for a few years now with my 480's & have to say it is the best config for 480's IMO. I used to run them XY with Danny doing sound for WSP & was never pleased. As I started experimenting I tried DIN based on J. Elderidges advice, once I tried it I was hooked. I use 90 degree's 17cm for hypers & 8 inches for cards. I use it everywhere & don't even bother with other configs anymore. It doesn't matter if it's in the section, FOB, indoors or outdoors. This works for me. Try NOS, ORTF, XY or PAS if you like, then you'll be able to learn & use your own judgement to what sounds best for your ears.
carl
PS- onstage, I'll run XY sometimes to tighten up the image, good luck!
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

Just currious. What does the DIN setup look like(I also just got some 480/ck61's, so I'm currious as well)
