Are any response graphs and polars for the TK capsules available?

Here is a recording I did back in 2012 using the protos - I wonder how different they sound to the production version

These are the mounts that came with my pair of tubes, but I didn't get the full field set, kinda cherry picked my set  ;D

How much cherry picking do they let you do? I really don't need any more cables, shock mounts or screens. I'd like to just get the bodies and one set of caps. Don't need the 69 dollar case either. Not really cherry picking, more like eliminating all the crap I don't need.

Well you kinda of loose the idea of the m260's and m60's if you where to use a active cable > PFA solution

The m60's from what I understand are a stab at the old km84 as they have output xformers
The m260's are tube based

The Telefunken design does not allow for a realistic addition of an active cable as the capusle is only a capsule and only has 2 conductors present (polarization and gnd)

You may be able to add a jfet based impedence converter with extension cable but you would need additional power for that (prob 4-10v depending on the design/FET)

They have looked into an active solution but I have no idea where this would stand in there priority list or how far it has gotten.

Thanks for the links Richard, I look forward to checking it out.  What are your thoughts of the FET vs. Tubes?

I prefered the m260's as they sounded more musical to my ears but I was using the first set of prototypes and only got to run them once (hard to judge with only one "test")

They have not changed much. I will send Ted my pair and let him play with them. Only time I use them now is for onstage as they lack that "something" that my MG's give me.

I saw these when I visited the factory to pick up my 260's. The fit & finish was excellent, I really liked the way they were packaged in the stereo set. I think they will have a winner if they hit the street with the pricing we were discussing AND of course they sound good.....
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

Have not received as of yet.  Was on back order, as I guess I missed the pre-book?  Expecting them possibly...hopefully today?

If only I had them last week for a Big Band recording of Zappa's music with the Ed Palermo Big Band.

I really want to test the M62 Hyper-Cardioid caps.

I really like the hyper caps in my set, I use them more often than not. I find them closer to a super card than hyper, they are very full sounding yet do a great job of rejecting the junk in the room. It's my go to cap in the rooms I tape in unless I'm on stage. I imagine the fet set up will be the same since it's the same cap with the fet body vs the Tubes. Hope you get yours soon so you can share your thoughts.

I also want to test the Card Caps against my Miktek C5MP FET Cards I run.  I really like the C5's although I never see or hear of many people using them outside of studio's and or overheads at clubs.  Much testing and fun to come!

Those Mikteks look interesting to me as well, I've wondered why more people don't use them except in studio applications. All the feedback seems positive every time I've read about them. I think most of us as tapers are too worried about spending money on mics such as those that aren't widely used in our typical applications, I know I am but if I had the money to spend I'd like to try a set sometime.

The source is WAY under the balcony at the new Infinity Hall. There was very little room and they made Scott record from the back of the room. I have not heard the tape but they were my M60's that were used.

That sounds nice!  Damn, I just picked up a new pair of mics, I was on the fence about picking up a pair of these but I couldn't find enough samples out there so I went with the KM 184 route instead, had I heard this first it might have pushed me in the other direction.

Well I got the pair used for $800, so the master set is still twice as much, but I get what you're saying.  I guess it came down to I've always really like the sound of the 184's, to my ears they most closely represent what it sounded like at the show, so I was afraid that I'd buy the M60's and still want a set of 184's.  Maybe with next years tax refund I'll do the master set, but I'm just getting back into taping after 15 years and I'm trying to not go overboard.

For that price I would have also went with the 184's. I myself want a pair but now have MG bodies/actives and the M60's I don't know when I would use them.

Another M60 source for you all. I ran the Hypers again since they were on the bodies and I ran out of the house to make the show.
Will try and use the CARDS next time out if the situation calls for it.

Decided to give the M60 a go and ordered a stereo pair.  Main use w/b drum overheads, some acoustic guitar, and interested in trying on cajon.

For those of you who've used the M60, any advice to share that might be an out-of-the-ordinary discovery?

Depending on the room I would definitely use my hyper's at that distance. I prefer the hyper's because I rarely tape outdoors or in nice sounding rooms. Distance to the PA isn't as much of a factor to me where the shape of the room, the location of my mics relative to the sound source & chatty audience's is.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

Yup id run them that close.  Just ran them at the El Rey here in LA with the hypers.  The room is kinda of long rectangle.  Came out great..

Do I "lose" reproducing the low end vs. cards and do you all use windscreens indoors to reduce ambient (talking) noise?

I good supercardioid, like the ones you use, should still have plenty of clean low end.  The supercardioid tends to pick up less room reverberation, so cardioids are more "full" sounding, but that can be a good or bad thing depending on the room.  Windscreens are needed to prevent wind noise/ HVAC, they will not help filter out the talkers.

Ran my set for the first time this past weekend for Motet/MMW/Vulfpeck at Red Rocks. Will have to wait until I get back to NOLA to post these, but listening back to them, they sound as good as expected.

(oh, and scored a Masters Stereo set on Reverb.com for under $1,100- it was an open demo from Sweetwater, used for their YouTube videos about a dozen times).

Sounds fantastic, as expected.

Haven't used the omni caps yet, but added a pair of the 30mm diffuse spheres. Now just need to find the right opportunity to put them to use...

New article on the FET M60 with Greensky Bluegrass:

Greensky Bluegrass Explores TELEFUNKEN FET M60 Condenser and Dynamic M80 Mics

South Windsor, CT, October 2020 – Hugely popular band Greensky Bluegrass redefines traditional bluegrass music as they employ TELEFUNKEN FET condenser microphones to deliver their genre-shaking performances.

“I have a stereo set of two matched M60s on the lip of the stage,” explains FOH mix engineer Luke Milanese, “and I change the placement slightly every night, trying to get the sweet spot for the band's in-ear monitor system, so that they have ambient reference to their liking. Then I take those mics and I put them into our nightly live recordings that we upload to Nugs.net at the end of every show. Those performances are streamed ASAP and available for purchase right away.”

Greensky Bluegrass is a five-piece bluegrass/rock band founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2000. The band has evolved over the years, growing from 3 to 5 members, adding electric effects and touring with a full light show. While the band is known as “not quite” bluegrass, they describe their sound as “our own version of bluegrass music, mixing the acoustic stomp of a string band with the rule-breaking spirit of rock & roll.”

After 18 years together, up to 175 shows per year, nearly 1,000 different setlists, six studio albums, and a litany of live releases, Greensky Bluegrass embodies more than just music for members Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass), and Paul Hoffman (mandolin). The band embodies an ironclad creative bond, familial brotherhood, and a lifelong commitment to fans.

“We have two principal singers and songwriters, although everyone contributes to the songwriting,” Milanese continues. “Paul Hoffman plays mandolin and sings and writes, and Dave Bruzza plays guitar and sings and writes. Paul Hoffman was singing into a familiar dynamic stage mic for years, but when I took over the gig, we tried out a whole pile of mics at production rehearsals. Telefunken was nice enough to give me a handful of models to try. Once Paul started singing into that dynamic M80, I knew right away it was going to change everything, and we've never looked back.”

After an early 2020 highly successful tour and series of nightly recordings, the band has sequestered themselves during the lockdown and are participating in virtual festivals and recording at home, where both Paul Hoffman and Dave Bruzza have M60 FET condensers. Most recently, Greensky Bluegrass is streaming a series of live sets, recorded in St. Louis at The Pageant venue.  “The Leap Year Sessions”, filmed in 4K by Trey Kerr’s 201 Productions (widely known for hi-res audio and video multicam productions with the band Phish) and available on: https://www.hyfi.com. https://www.201productions.com

“Since there is currently no touring, 201 Productions is set up to bring bands into the Pageant, socially distance and sanitize and record multi-track shoots on a regular basis. So we went in for seven days and recorded nine sets of music to be released.”

After his strong initial success with TELEFUNKEN microphones in 2009, Milanese was experimenting on a past live project with the soul pop band Lake Street Dive.  “We eventually added M60’s so that every condenser on stage was an M60. That's when I first started using them as room mics and high-hat mics. Then everywhere there was a condenser space, we tried to use that mic. We ran them in an XY pattern for overheads on the drums.  It made the entire in-ear mix just more cohesive in every way. We thought it was placebo at first, but then we put some different mics back out on the lip of the stage in place of the M60s, and the difference was remarkable. Hands down, everyone on the stage couldn't believe it.  That experience is what pushed me towards the M60’s when I started working with Greensky Bluegrass, and I’m really glad I did.”
