Nak 701 cardioid info needed
« on: October 22, 2020, 11:42:51 AM »
I have a pair of chopped NAK 701 cardioids that I converted to BNC connectors as the orig. had RCA connectors which continually lost signal. I have a chance to buy nak 700 shotgun  capsules from JEMS and wondering if they will screw onto what I have. Included are pictures of what I have. Any info would be appreciated, I've also looked at PFA options for the cardioids but never acted on it.

They appear to have the same thread size and spacing, so the fit presumably should work.  Did the CP-703 shotgun capsules screw directly to the CM700 preamplifier body and not either the 0dB or -15dB barrels?

One (potential) issue that may need to be considered is whether or not the shotgun capsules will be adequately powered with an “active” (chopped) setup.  I seem to recall that the CP4 shotgun capsules did not work with the CM300 “active” setups.  I had both active setups at one point, but only ever ran the CP4’s a couple of times on the actual preamplifier bodies.

So, to summarize, this post is of no real use at all.  :P

Not so! you helped with confirming that thread size seems to match, Jems told me that smaller size of 300 vs. 700 didn't match, I am guessing that thread size between the 701 cards and 700 shotguns should match, hoping that powering them through PFA phantom powering will work. I've always wanted to have both 700 shotguns as well as the 701 cards. Can anyone tell me the diff. between the 700 cards (if they exist) and the 701 cards(which I have)?

Like the other Nak mics (and other mic lines as well), it is a series. The "700 cards" are the 700 body with the 701 card capsule.
CM-700: body
CP-701: card cap
CP-702: omni cap
CP-703: shotgun cap

It's a moot point, they were sold.

To answer your question,  yes the brass connector would work with the 703 if it currently works with the setup in the picture
