Audacity Resample/ Dither Problems
« on: March 22, 2006, 07:58:57 AM »
I have just begun recording and working with 24/96 files. Last night I tracked a show and then exported the files while resampling to 16bit and dithering to 44.1hz. Audacity appears to have added approximately 4 seconds of silence to the end of each track. None of the music is missing, just extra silence on the end. Any thoughts / comments / suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

Peace,

Lee

I did this w/ a dtb show the first time i recorded at 24/28.  You need to resample, then dither and then export.  Are the track times all xx.xx.00?  Audacity pads the end of the each track and keeps the file size the same.

Thanks for the help. Another question, how do I resample and dither before exporting? I thought resampling and dithering were done when you did export. I appreciate all of the help - I am a newbie to 24/96 file processing.

Peace,

Lee

it think that in order to do an actual resample/dither (not just change the numbers), you need to do an export.

Then how do I deal with the extra 4 seconds or so being added to each track?

I haven't used Audacity in a long time, so there may be a better way, but I'd export the entire recording and then track, rather than track followed by exporting.

thats what i do as well.  then just cut off the 4 s at the end of the file, then export again (at the new bit-depth/sample rate) and track.

There is a better/easier way - I can't do a step by step off the top of my head - i haven't done it enough yet.  I'll look at it when I get home tonight.

Thanks Brian. Such a simple fix, I just never thought of doing it that way. All is good now.

Peace,

Lee
