Small stealth preamp for Gmini 402?
« on: November 06, 2006, 10:20:39 AM »
Hi all,

I've been taping for a few months now and before doing it I researched a little bit on the site and decided that the Gmini 402 was a good compromise between quality, price, size and availability. I hook it up with the Sony's minidisc mic because I couldn't find any mic  recommended here on the site in my city.

Oh well, this setup has given me some good tapings, but the only problem is that the sound is too low due to the lack of any kind of preamp, so this is where my question comes, since I'm looking for a preamp that would keep me stealth and is not too crappy, it must be relatively easy to find on a physical store as availability is not too good around here (I'm in Europe).

So if you have any recommendations or if you use this setup or you have any other comment that would make my tapings better many thanks to you in advance.

One possibility is the Felmicamps Battery Preamp
www.felmicamps.co.uk/products/felbattpreamp.html

This new product acts as preamp for one or two mics.
The preamp has a low noise floor, -120dB (adds less hiss in
the recordings).  The maximum gain the preamp can
add is 55 dB, which is better than many less expensive
preamps.  The preamp runs on a single 9 volt battery.

Felmicamps is a British company, so you should be able to
locate a European dealer or buy direct.
