Infrared photos (Noiseware really IS amazing)
« on: August 06, 2007, 01:08:33 PM »
After reading the recommendations for Noiseware and then trying it out for myself, I happily bought a copy this weekend.  I am completely amazed... this plug-in changes the rules.  These infrared pictures from my Canon G7 compact had a LOT of chroma noise, but they're dramatically better now.

I thought you guys might enjoy checking out the results...

Infrared is so much fun to shoot.  Did you have your camera converted or are you just using a filter and long exposures?  I've done some infrared with my D70 and got some really neat images, but have not had in converted so i have to use a tripod and longer shutter speeds to get good exposures. I'm guessing longer exposures based on the motion blur?

Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

The G7 is stock, so yeah, the shutter speeds are around 15 seconds... a major problem when shooting foliage.   When my D200 becomes "obsolete," I'll consider having the low-pass/IR filter removed instead of selling it.  I haven't done any IR with the D200, but from the examples I've seen it isn't worth the trouble... good thing too, the prices of 77mm IR filters are outrageous!!
