UA-5 for direct to computer capturing
« on: October 19, 2011, 02:06:37 PM »
I've got an Edirol UA-5 here that I'm considering using for converting a box of DAT tapes.  Any do's/don'ts for hooking it up to my PC via the USB?

I found and downloaded the driver on Edirol page.  From here I'm curious what my next steps will be get up and running?

Use your V3.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Use your V3.

for dat transfers?  it would have to go analog in if you use the v3.  don't see the point.  dat > coax > r44 would be an exact digital copy of the dat.

Oppss... sorry... you are right. If it's a stock UA-5 it'll work. But not a digi-mod.

edit to add:

I'm currently coping some cassettes to WAVs and I'm using my DR-680. The suggestion about using the R44 is a good one.

Just go DAT directly into the SPDIF input on your R44...  Then copy the Card onto your PC...  Easiest and most likely to give you a perfect copy of your DAT...

If you want to do your cassettes, then run your Tape Deck through the V3 into you R44...  Use the V3 to adjust levels (if needed) and do the A>D Conversion...  But you could just run the analog out of the Tape Deck into the analog in on the R44 and do the same thing (adjust levels and A>D)...

***Do you have PHISH, VIDA BLUE, JAZZ MANDOLIN PROJECT or any other Phish related DATs/Tapes/MDs that need to be transferred???  I can do them for you!!!***

I will return your DATs/Tapes/MDs.  I'll also provide Master FLAC files via DropBox.  PM me for details.

agreed on using the r44 -- especially since I believe the ua5 resamples the digital input.
