Soundcard popping when called to duty in PowerPoint?

How can I avoid these annoying pops when I cue some audio in PowerPoint?

Its like the soundcard goes to sleep while not being used...but makes a pop when asked to do something...

Also any better ideas for getting audio from my production PC - other than the RCA outs?
