Title: Buying new schoeps ?'s
Post by: caymanreview on February 09, 2016, 07:15:11 PM
Im ready to pull the trigger on a couple sets of caps and some misc other stuff

I havent bought much new gear in a decade, and ive never bought any schoeps stuff.

I dont have "a guy" for schoeps like i do with some other stuff. So, Im looking for suggestions or opinions on where to buy from.

Same price everywhere, I went with Soundpure because unlike BH Photo, Soundpure found me a pair of new matched 41s in a day. BH just told me six weeks, back order. Chuck Giardino, nice guy.

Call Justin at Pro Sound and tell him you're on TS. He's a taper and will do you right. Welcome to the Dark Side. >:D

Same price everywhere

That's what I thought, too. Then I specifically asked some dealers for discounts when getting two capsules at the same time. One got me a pretty good deal (599 EUR/capsule vs. 699 EUR when ordering from Schoeps directly). So it can't hurt asking around.

BH just told me six weeks, back order.

That's what I was told by my dealer and Bernhard of Schoeps, too. Still waiting for my pair to arrive. ;(

Matched.

FWIW I'm not sure you need to wait on "matched" if that's the holdup. I've bought Schoeps new both as matched and unmatched pairs and honestly can't say there was any difference other than the higher price for the matched set and the nice box with the certificate of matching.

good call

I've only owned one set of matched mics/caps in the past.

I have owned MANY schoeps capsules over the years - vintage, used, new, etc - I see no reason to buy matched and the only reason to buy new capsules is if your extremely anal and need mint caps (which IMO is a bigger pain than it's worth - your always going to be worrying not to scratch the capsule - not worth the extra anxiety)

I would save the money and buy used caps

I tend to agree, but when I was selling my dpas matched seemed to matter to buyers. And matching doesn't cost more. And I didn't have to wait with Soundpure. If I'd had to wait I'd probably have grabbed used 4s.  :P 41s just so rarely seem to come up. The Swiss army tool of recording.  ;D

I ordered 4s new yesterday from b and h. Before I knew about Justin at pro-sound.

I'm not in a huge rush for the hypers. I would think have a 4th recorder for a bit. Unless I snag an f8. I'm waiting for a decent price 744

There was a time last year when someone posted it was raining schoeps in the YS.  Now its a drought?

I got mine from Doug. If not for the Oade board and Doug's information learning this game would have taken so much longer.  I always feel good buying from him I know I'm supporting one of us.
