Title: Windscreen for AT4050ST?
Post by: ashevillain on March 21, 2016, 07:28:24 PM
Anyone know offhand which windscreen works best for the AT4050ST? I'd ideally like to find a windscreen that is on par with the performance of the Shure A81WS.

I see the AT8137 is an option. Any others that are known to work better?

Edit: Looks like Guitar Center is saying they won't fill my order now so I won't be needing any windscreen for this mic. I guess I'll leave this thread up in case others need to reference it.

The AT8137 might work; I also found the Rode WS2.

You might contact Chris Johnson at Busman Audio or the folks at Avantone Audio to see if they have a "spare" windscreen sitting around for their BSCS-L and Avantane CK-40 LD stereo mics.  Just a thought.

Another potential option is the windscreen listed for the Studio Project's LSD-2 LD stereo mic.

Are the AT4050ST and AKG 414 roughly about the same size?  If so, I recall mention on this forum about some of the Neumann windscreens working very well for the 414 and being about as effective as the Big-Ass Shures (A81WS).  Don't know the model numbers offhand but I bet some searching in the Microphone threads will bear fruit.

Edit to add, thread links found.  Unfortunately, the picture links are gone but I guess you don't really need them:

It looks like they are close but the 4050ST is more of a cylindrical shape. The 4050ST is listed as 53.4mm max diameter. The 414 is listed at 50mm x 38mm.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into them.

Edit: Per Justin at Pro-Sound, the Rycote 45/100 Foam windscreen (104422) and its companion Mini Windjammer (055428) will work for this mic.
