Hello! Just look at the picture and please tell me if this will hurt audio quality? Is it common with CA-11's? Does it mean they will not last long?
They have been great so far and I don't want them to break.

No it will not hurt audio quality but they should be recabled soon. Because they will fail at some point in time. You can extend the life slightly by using liquid electrical tape available at walmart in the USA.

Thanks for reply! Will it be possible for some local electrical engineer to recable it or the construction of the microphones should be known and only you could do this? The problem is I live in Europe and the shipment isn't cheap.

This is something I have to do because I will most likely have to replace the fet bodies when I recable these mics.. And I am the only one with fet bodies.. The other option to think about would be to buy a pair of my omni mics you can use the card capsules and simply screw them onto the new cables that the omni mics come on. But in ether case I would like to get the capsule back to match them to the new fet bodies.

You know what? I did nothing. After 1,5 years they look much worse, but they are still working and people are still enjoying my recordings. That's great!

You can fix this by using liquid electrical tape. Its not pretty but it will get you possibly a few more years before you will have to send them back to me. Obviously crackling or cut outs cant be fixed with the liquid tape. But exposed shield wires can be covered back up again.
