Title: Which SD Card for R-09
Post by: ouzo on October 17, 2007, 11:07:39 AM
Hi there,

Don't know if this topic was already posted somewhere.

I'm looking for recommendations about SD cards for the Edirol R-09.

Any ideas for 2Gb, 4GB and 8GB?

Cards should be available in Europe.

Thanks.

I'm using a Sandisk SDHC Ultra II 4gb. No problems whatsoever. As far as being available in Europe, I don't know. ::)

Hi

Hope this is the right place...........

I've been asked to repair a friends RO9 - solder the mic input jack, which is discussed elsewhere.  Done, no problem.

However, I've noticed there is a 4Gb SD card in the machine (firmware version 1.30) but in the menu the file size option only goes up to 2Gb.  There are 1.3Gb file and 700Mb files on the card.  The latter just stopped recording after 700Mb (i.e. when there was a total of 2Gb on the card).

Is this normal?  Is the machine not recognising the 4Gb card?  Or are the two issues unrelated?

Many thanks

Unrelated.
The menu sets the max file size.  Once reacing that the unit does a seemles file split and starts recording to a new file.  It will repeat that action untill the card is full.

I got two Kingston 8GB SDHC (Class 4) for $45 each ($59 w/$15 rebate) a couple weeks ago.  Other suitable cards are listed in the R-09 FAQ thread.

Where?  The only 16GB ones I see are Patriot cards, and they're $147 at NewEgg.

I just ordered two of these $30.99 after mail in rebate;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211180 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211180)

I'll post back on how they work with the R09.

I've got a Kingston 4gb Class 4 SD card and so far its faultless. I've only had it a few weeks but its perfect to use and I only got it on recommendation because others have said they are solid cards.

I like those 8GB cards, and at $31 each that's a good price.  Let us know if they work!

I got one of these cards today. It came in a box that must have been 18" square, filled with paper and the card sitting directly on the top.  ::)

Put the card into the R09 and it showed 7:55 recording time available. Tried formatting, took a little longer than my transcend 4gb card, but formatted fine. It's now recording at 24/48. Seems OK.

I'm going to fill it up completely a couple of times to make sure it splits files up OK. So far it looks like a winner.

Oh yeah, I am running firmware 1.20

Edit to add:

Well it ran fine up until it tried to make it's first 2gb split, then I got the Slow Card warning and ended up with like 500 small files. I thought that firmware 1.20 was the one with the 8GB fix, but it looks like that was 1.30.

I just installed 1.30 and will let it record overnight. Hopefully I wake up to a couple of 2gb files. I'll post back tomorrow.

2nd edit: Well, I got the "Slow Card- press any button" flag again. This time it came after it filled the card completely. I got 3 files 2:04 long and one about 1:44 long. When I hit a button, the flag went away and the file was saved. Not sure if that is how the recorder acts when it's card is filled? I'll try filling it a couple more times times to see if it is constant.

Correct. v1.2 did not split properly on cards over 4GB unless there was already a file <2GB on the card.  That was corrected with v1.3

Sounds OK. I haven't filled a 8GB card completely to see what the recorder does at that point.  I've had 'slow card' messages before with both 4 & 8GB class 2 cards when pressing rec/pause before the machine is totally booted, but I tend to pause for a moment now before entering rec/pause by habit, so I haven't seen that in a while.  I do occasionally see a 'slow card' message when fast forwarding during playback, but it doesn't seem to ba a problem.

I have completely filled the Adata 8gb card 4 times now, first time I got the Slow Memory flag when it tried close out the final file (it did save it). The next three times it filled the card without issue.

With firmware 1.30 this card looks like a keeper. It kind of amazes me that a little more than a year ago I spent twice as much as I paid for two of these cards on a single 4GB card.

Looks like I be using this card for Hot Tuna next weekend. Got my fingers crossed. :guitarist:

Cool, I couldn't wait and had ordered one already.  Thanks for the info.

The 8gb Adata card came in from newegg, I reformatted it and it showed like 15 hours of space remaining at 16/44.1.  Started recording line in and got one file just a shade over 2gb and one just a shade under 2gb before the battery konked out, about 7 hours on a partially discharged set of NiMH that showed not-quite-full when it started, so 7 hours makes sense.  For $31 I might have to order a second one!

Ran it last night with full NiMH batteries and got four files, three were 2+ gb, last one was less than 1gb, so it seems my batteries died before filling the card. But it appears that the Adata card worked fine.

It recorded 3:22 + 3:22 + 3:22 + 1:26 = 11 hours and 32 minutes of 16/44.1 audio on one charge, unattended!  Pretty cool for a recorder that's about the size of a cell phone.
