TSKB: Glitches in recording?
« on: June 19, 2007, 08:35:34 PM »
Ok.  I ran AKG481>w UA5>laptop at Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeschi last Sat.  When I opened the recording to listen to it I found that it is full of little pops/clicks. :'(

I ran a global anaylsis in wavelabs6.0 and discovered that there are tons of what the program calls glitches.  This is different than clipping.

Anyone have ideas on

A:  What caused this?
B:  How can I prevent this from happening again?
C:  Is there anyway to salvage this recording?

Thanks for any input. :D

There's a limit on file sizes for attachements that will limit you to a very short clip converted to flac.

I may also be able to help you out.  There are a few audio editors that will let you redraw the waveform by hand to eliminate the glitches, but if there are a ton of them it could take forever.  There are also pop/click removal programs meant for digitizing old LPs that may also help out.

Just cut up a small piece (like a min or two) of a section that has a few pops and clicks and then upload it too one of the thousands of free file hosting services.  such as www.yousendit.com , www.mediafire.com

Then just post the link it will give ya in a PM or here in this thread.

TSKB = Tapers Section Knowledge Base.  A Knowledge Base, commonly referred to as a KB, is in common use for any kind of technology or other kind of help desk phone queue.  When you call in to a phone queue with a question about a product or piece of software, the person on the other end of the phone is feverishly entering key words from your question into an engine that searches through any number of KB's for likely answers, very much like searching for something in Google.

Becky, this makes me think of a recent thread here about high humidity recording, which can easily introduce pops and clicks into a recording.  If you were recording in that environment, it may simply be that.  If so, PM O-Canis for how to fix it.  He fixed an MMW recording of mine with that same issue...

Cheers,
Dean

Although - "TSKB" is typically used in the open forums when addressing non-taping questions. The idea being - folks involved in this hobby are generally technical-minded smarties and may have other specialties beyond taping...thus the collective knowledge base.

Sweet. I'll post a clip tonight after work.

Eight days later I finally had time to accomplish this task :P

Anyway if anyone out there still has time to check this out and give me some feedback on possible ways to fix this recording please post back ;D

The pops/clicks continue throughout the recording.

Here's a 16/44.1 MP3 clip.  THANKS!!

Good news Becky. Its appears I am able to remove the clicks and pops and keep 99.9999% of the music intact.

if ya wanna shoot me some flac's via torrent or snail mail.  I will be happy to fix it up for ya.

here is a fixed sample.

On a side note.  The file you uploaded was m4a format and not infact a MP3.  And you might doublecheck your file names.  DBT?  shouldn't that be DTB.
