Smartphones normally don't have stereo-in capability through their TRRS connection (only stereo-out). You'll need to feed your phone with a digital stereo signal through the usb-c plug like a Shure MV88+ or an audio interface like RØDE AI-Micro.
i just realized that if you want to stealth in a big arena chances are you are not going to get a recorder in anymore. I know people are recording on their phones. Is there a free/cheap app and can i just put a stereo 1/8" into the phone? thanks in advance
I have had zero issues "getting in" with mics/recorder/battery box. These days venues are occupied with checking vaccine status and keeping the line moving ... if anything it's been easier.

I used the Shure MV88 mic a few years back at the Gorge for Def Leppard and Journey. Recordings came out great I think. Definitely different sound from band to band but that could be who was behind the board. I’m terrible at tracking concerts in software and uploading. If anyone wants to track either bands or both and can tell me how to send the files I’ll send them.
theres absolutely no reason to bother with a smart phone. get yourself a Sony PCM A10 and youll have no issues. Ive been using it since 2019 and havent been stopped once.

Exactly I'm still doing it the same way I've been doing it for years no problems
