I and many others are using 9v lithium batteries marketed for portable DVD players.
Three specific brands / models of which I'm aware: Lenmar DVD-U9, Initial RB-270, Memorex (sorry, forget the model #)
Keywords to use for finding them on eBay or Froogle: universal, DVD, lithium

UA5 yes, JB3 no. The UA5 runs on roughly 9-12v (some run on 7.2v). The JB3 runs on 5v. These batteries come in either 9v or 7.2v configurations, neither of which meets the JB3's 5v requirements.

Depends in part on the mics used. The V3 draws 750 - 1,000 mA. Most of the 9v batteries are 5400 mA. So run-time in the neighborhood of 5-7 hrs if you really push it and run down the battery completely.

I don't know for certain. The only way to know for sure is to try it with your gear. If you really want to get a full 5 hours out of it, try a test at home and see what happens. Worst case, you carry 2 of the batteries. They're fairly small / light, so I never minded carrying an extra just in case (but I'm paranoid about not having enough power, not having a full charge, etc.). Sure beats lead!
I've never run my batts into the ground because I'm always paranoid about not having enough power. So I always have too much, always carry two of the batts around. My R-4 battery cable (like my V3 cable before it) is wired in parallel on the battery side, so as one battery's dying down, I can plug in a new one while my gear's running, then unplug the one that's nearly finished, all without interrupting my recording.

Re: running two batteries.
I've got the same "parallel" battery arrangement for "hot swapping". But I put a diode in series with the positive terminal of each battery. I'm worried that if one battery has lower voltage than the other it is *possible* that the batteries will pass current between themselves. Probably not, especially with batteries like this with protection circuitry, but it is possible. The diode drops about 0.65V so it does not really waste very much power.

I also have have a battery cord wired in parellel with another connector that makes "hot swapping" possible. Before I had this set-up, I ran out of juice a couple of times.

Wow, to be honest this is the first I've heard of these "parallel" battery arrangement for "hot swapping" cables. Could anyone recommend someone from the ts.com community who makes them? I'd greatly appreciate it. I could probably send a couple PMs in the retail forum...

just buy an adaptaplug Y cord and 2 of the tips that fits into the battery (forgot which). works like a charm
