I would assume an analog rca or mini out.  iphone has no audio input jack.  It would have to go in where the charger goes.  Anyone use a blue tooth with an iphone?  Would have to be something along those lines I'm assuming.

That cable is most likely an output cable.

Problem I see is that most recording devices for ipod/iphone probably interface them just for storage w/o actually allowing a streaming application to retransmit the data.

maybe with this type of technology, tapers will be able to solicit funds from message boards & band communities to pay for their show tickets and travel costs. ::) ::) ::)

I think what they are selling is a cable that connects your iPhone/iPod to your ALPINE JVC SONY Car Stereo with RCA Inputs.  It would make sense as ALPINE only makes Car Stereos and 12V Input is standard DC Car Voltage - so you can charge/Power your iPhone/iPod while it's plugged in.

The only thing I know of is some Belkin adapter that plugs into the proprietary jack and has a miniplug input jack.  But that's probably linked in the above post.  :P

Because it's Apple and Jobs told them they could.  :P

I think the idea in the original question would be to take the line-out of your normal rig and stream to ustream via iphone w/o needing to involve a laptop.

that's my take, and as of right now that would require a jailbroken iPhone since you would need to run 2 non-Apple apps simultaneously: Qik and the app that would control the necessary hardware and that is assuming the apps could even talk to each other....

Man rough crowd... I used to own a schoeps rig and helped see some of the very fits CDs on etree with my old M1>CDR870 so =P! Gimme an eff'n break!  The description in the cable said "INPUT".  The idea is for a stream.. Obviously Id don't need a recording.  Anyway, cable arrived today and it will record when the phone is in airplane mode (no 3g or wifi)..  $15.. oh well I'll return it or look for a hack.

I have no idea about streaming, but for recording on an Iphone, the state of the art app is Audiofile FiRe, as mentioned in the previous Iphone thread linked by Neilyboy.

And for line-in, your cheapest option (save for DIY) is this:
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=115762.msg1550982#msg1550982

If you bought the cable, you've been duped by a poor description. Here's the exact same cable again:

If you read the fine print here, it's obvious that it connects to the aux-in on your (car) stereo, hence the name.
