Title: Can a UA5 connect to the digital in on the Sony D50?
Post by: mark_ivan on March 25, 2009, 11:28:51 PM
I realize the digimod change needs to be made to the UA5 first, but has anyone tried this?

Notice any improvement in sound over the D50's own pre and A/D?

You could go optical in from the UA5.  Likewise, you could get it busman modded and it would be really nice.

You just need a toslink>3,5mm optical cable and you're good to go.
Don't know if anyone made a side-by-side comparison, but I'd imagine that at least modded UA-5 units would come out favorable, compared to the internal pre+AD.

Though the real benefit of the UA-5 is phantom power, and the ability to run matrix. If I just had a D50 and plain 3,5mm battery powered stereo mic, I probably wouldn't bother with an outboard box.
