Is it ok to put foam around a minime?

(1/2) > >>

Kevin:
I have been working on making a foam insert for all my cables to rest on and was wondering if this is safe to do?  Its pick and pluck foam. If this isnt ok does anyone have an alternative for me? thanks in advance for the advice.

Wes:
a good test would be to hold a lighter to it for a second, if the whole thing goes up in flames, don't use it.  if it just sears it only a liitle it should be fine.  12V tends to get hotter than 6V.  If you're using an ec-90 you should be fine b/c that thing doesn't dissipate any energy in the form of heat. I'm not sure if the pick and pluck foam is flame retardant.  I doubt it is.  you can find flame retardant foam at just about any craft store.

Kevin:
if I hold it directly on it, it takes a sec then burns but if i hold it very slightly away from it and leave the lighter on it doesnt burn. any thoughts

Kevin:
the foam is around a minime which, btw, is the 6volt version

Wes:
sounds to me like it should be fine.  fix it up and let it run for an hour or so while you keep a close eye on it.
