What config & setup? loud small bar.

(1/4) > >>

Kindguy:
I know questions get posted like this all the time but I could use some advice.

I'm taping Blues Old Stand in a small crappy bar tonight. I can setup wherever I want. There is a poll about 4 feet from the stage that is a good spot & gives a little protection from the drunks. Or I could setup on the stage. I know 4 feet is basically onstage.

Some of the band runs out of a board. & some out of there own amps.

Lots of chatter & talking will be going on as well. I would run the hypers in a room like this usually. But was thinking of running the cards to keep the laughing/screaming girls out of the mix as much as possible.

I ran XY in this situation before & it picked up way too much of the drums & cymbals.

Thinking of doing DIN? Am I too close for it?  Also how high would you run? Head height would be perfect. But I know the room will be so loud & full of drunks.

Any advice would be appreciated. As far as the caps go I'll prob try them both. Just to compare.  (mics are 480's BTW)

could you get a board feed and matrix? run your cards onstage at like 110d 0cm and mix that at 35% and the board at 65%?

Kindguy:
I could but from what i remember all vocals & the bass is through the board. Maybe the keyboard is also.

That would make for a weird mix. i have no idea why they run like that.

I would do one of two things:

1.) You can run hypers and point the mics directly at the stacks.

2.) Run cards and try to hit as much of the sound from the stage as possible.

Four feet away seems like too close to me.  Can you move back any to about 20 feet?  It may be easier to use a stereo configuration that way.

Personally, I would probably do option 1 in your situation, but that's me.  Aren't you in Colatown?  What bar is it?

Kindguy:
I just got off the phone with them. Vocals only through a small board.

No stacks to point at. Since it's such a small bar they all run out of their own amps.

The bar is 1048 in Montgomery AL.

I could go further back but the crowd noise will be a big issue. The back wall of the bar is approx 25 to 30 ft from the stage.
