1.  Take the supplied cable (coiled one) to Radio Shack.

2.  Purchase a female to female adaptaplug cable.

3. Purchase an "M" tip for the said adaptaplug cable.

4.  Have the sales clerk match the supplied cable for another "?" tip.

should get out for under 15 bucks, no hacking necessary!

;D

oh yeah and let us know what the other "?" tip is, I need to get one too!!!

edit:  the UA5's polarity is reversed (center pin negative), so you will just flip the "M" tip.

after cross referencing the included paperwork & Radio Shacks website, I have come to the conclusion that it will be the "B" tip. (but don't quote me!!!)

yep it is the B tip that you want. before i go hook it all up and fuck shit up, do we know for certain that the B tip has the correct polarity and should be connected positive to positive?

Thanks for the help!

On a side note, if in the future I wanted to add an additional one of these walmart puppies to my rig (increased life, im only expecting to get ~4 hours out of each one, im using it for a M-100FX not a UA-5), could i simply purchase a Adaptaplug Y cable and hook up the second one while the first one is about to die or would i get an instantaneous surge of 18V if i did that?
thanks

on either end of the female to female adaptaplug. it will say tip.  for the end that plugs into the battery, line up the "+" on the B tip (battery is center pin positive).  the ua5 is center pin negative (not sure what the m100fx is).  if the m110fx is center pin negative as well, then line up the tip with "-" on the tip.

hope that makes sense.

edit:  the great thing about the adaptaplug cable, is that you can choose the polarity on either end!

according to edirol, m-100 uses the same adapter as ua-5, so yes the polarity should be the same.

Just because the M100 uses the same adapter doesn't necessarily mean the polarity is the same.  It probably is, but would be worth confirming before firing anything up.

That would be what the meter is for...  When messing with polarity on power cables it is always a good idea to double check... Keeps the smoke in, if you don't and you let the smoke out, it costs a lot to have the repair guy put the smoke back in. ::)

maybe the 4th green indicator light is not working, but it still may be holding the full charge.

see how long the battery lasts with 3 lights. i think there was another thread that someone had used thier ua-5 for 5hrs+ with this battery at 2 lights.

i do think the 4th LED was broken on the old one, but i also think it was busted period. when i plugged it in the first time, it flashed green, the new one is solid red (the indicator of charging). in anycase, im almost positive this swapped one is good and for the 20 minutes of driving to replace it and the always friendly walmart customer service desk (riiiiiiight) im sure ill be happy with it.
