Windows7 64bit DVD-Audiofile (other options?)
« on: July 14, 2010, 07:43:45 PM »
So I just got a new desktop, with Win7 64bit.  Trying to get a way to make quick dvd-a's from 24bit files, and i have used DVD-Audiofile in the past with success, in the WinXP environment.  Does anyone know of other options for drag&drop from the 24bit flacs to a ISO.

I'd rather not get into multi-threading for the Win7, just for one program - but will if it's neccesary.  I've tried installing the zip from 24bit turtleside faq and NORTON detects it as suspicious and deletes the exe before i can get a chance to run it.  I just dont know what others are doing for 24bit DVD-A on the quick.  I'm 95% sure Disc Welder would work but would rather not pay if there is another option.

Thanks to any responses in advance.

so dvd-audiofile doesn't work on your box?

if that doesn't work, fab has made his own GUI.

correct, it wont run on my 64bit box.  at least norton thinks it's a bad .exe and deletes it immediately

because you know something about the program above and beyond norton?  i'm weary of disabling the virus software which i installed......
i dont doubt your suggestion will work, but i'd love to hear from any others with similar suggestions as to why i should turn off my protection

can you just tell norton to ignore that file?

check the link i posted.  that's another GUI for the same tools (actually uses a much more recent version of the tools)

Truth be told the Norton products wreak all kind of havoc with legitimate files.   A product line that has become bloated while others are doing the simple tasks (i.e. virus protection) much better and with no bloat.

In ths case you're only letting a trusted set of files pass through Norton.  It's not like you're opening the flood gates to virus hell with the front end/program.

Better yet consider moving to one of the higher rated and free anti virus products and replace Norton and you won't have these issues anymore.

have a squeezebox, been one of the first users to go there in 2003 v1 - old school!
just doesnt support but 16/48

EDIT: so it turns out norton was to blame.  i pulled it off, updated java and fired it up - perfecto.  still gonna explore the vmware/virtual desktop idea for kicks.
Thanks everyone!

glad that you got it working.
also, I don't know what version of Windows 7 you have, but if you have Professional or Ultimate, there's a built-in "XP mode".  Essentially windows built virtualization right into Windows 7 so that people can run XP.  I don't have much experience with this (because I've got Home Premium on my computer), but it's probably the best way to run XP on a Windows 7 machine.

agreed, but i've also heard that the vmware software player/viewer is a free way to do it if you dont have pro (i have home win7 ;-(

i have the software on the desktop, just gotta dig up my win xp disc to install it virtually.  the only reason i dont do the other option (the one you mention) is that to upgrade to pro win7 is $199...  steep considering my box only cost 380

I've been trying to use dvd-audiofile and can't seem to get it to work. I am using win 7 pro. I haven't ran program under "xp mode" but didn't think i needed too either.
When I go to burn dvda, it doesn't show .iso as one of the file formats to save as, just *.* i use create iso and it appears as .file, not an iso file. I even named iso with .iso at end of name.
thanks
