audiophile 24/96 digi-out question
« on: January 12, 2005, 05:30:53 PM »
for playing back 24 bit files, i am assuming that a simple s/pdif out to dac will give me what I need. I have heard that the 24/96 does not have an internal digi-out, but I am not sure what that means. Maybe there are issues? Can anybody set me straight? Thanks!

there should be a coax spdif output on the connector dongle that plugs into the back of your a2496.

yes I have it.

maybe i should have worded my question differently

What I meant is does the 24/96 output a bit-perfect signal?

Thanks!

bit-perfect means that data passed between the spdif ports and hard drive (bus really) is not resampled and samples are not dropped, duplicated or altered.

Some sound cards are designed such that they resample all data as it passes between the spdif port and the HD.

Your audiophile 2496 card will allow you to trasfer between the file on your HD and the SPDIF ports wthout altering the sample values.
