Topic: Has anybody tried 8gb CF card in their microtrack?

I have seen questions about 8gb microdrives but not 8gb CF cards.

This seems to be reasonable, but the only Ridata product I have bought is a spindle of CD's.

I have not used that one... But have used a SanDisk Ultra II 8gig with no issues recording up to 24/96.

i'm getting a 4gb ritek shortly, i can try that out once i get it.  i think i paid just over $100 for it....wish I would have saw this, I would have went with the 8 gigs for another $80 or so dollars.

Although 8GB CF appears to be interesting I think the extra value is rather limited as long as the MT still has no seamless `auto-open new file after 2GB` option.
(i.e.: why record 8GB of audio when every 2GB you miss a few sconds?)

Because this card can be used for years, not only in a Microtrack.

I know within  year or two the Microtrack will be my backup, just like my JB3 is now.

No direct experience with this make, but like others, no issues with +45x rated speed Sandisk 8 GIG Ultra II with 9 MB/sec write specification.

Riteck card does seem quite a bit slower than the Sandisk for write speed ability, and this may be a limiting factor with higher rate Microtrack recording modes.

Because this card can be used for years, not only in a Microtrack.

The thread is about using 8GB CF in a MT. Not in other gear.
Also it is not about how long it will last.
It is about the practicality of using the card.

if you ask me the practicality of using the card is the fact that you can use it for years to come in other devices besides the MT.

And seemless auto split or not, I still think the 8gb card would be nice for big shows or festivals, or marathon weekend taping runs.  having two of these cards, would be a heck of lot easier to worry about than having 4 4gb cards.

My knowledge of CF cards isn't as much as it should be, but when the card says 80x and 12MB/S - wouldn't that mean its faster than a card that is rated at 45x and 9MB/S?

When looking for reviews of several cards I remember reading that some cards list the speed that is the fastest they can write (or sometimes the average), however, some can't maintain this speed over a period of time.  This is not typically an issue for cameras since you are ususally snapping a few pictures at a time, however, with audio if the card slows and you use up your record buffer there will be issues.  Another thing that can affect the speed is how hot your gear gets/or the temperature outside (i'm in AZ) and how well the card handles the heat.  Anyway 24/96 records at .549 MB/s so if the card does not slow down you should be OK with anything over that.

That being said I know nothing about the card pictured above.
