Audio-Technica ATH-M50.  Around the same price as the 7506 and sounds a lot better.  I used to have both and am happy that I have the M50.

If you are recording loud sources, you may want to switch to in-ear monitors, as they will block out more of the sound.  If you want to stay in the $100 - $150 price range of the M50 and 7506, take a look at the Westone UM1 in-ear monitors.  Really fantastic earphones.

I agree, the m50s are so much better than the sony 7506 headphones.

If you want to monitor live, I would also recommend in ear OR the sennheiser HD 25-1 II.

They look silly and you wouldn't think they provide a lot of isolation but they really do. The isolation on IEM would be higher (at least on more higher end models) but you may find it annoying to take it out of your ear and back in each time.

For those of us that like the Sony, can anyone say if those Ebay models are legit?  They come from Hong Kong, so I'm suspicious.  On the other hand, the new Sony are made in China, so you never know...

I don't buy anything on Ebay that comes from Hong Kong; I don't care what it is.  If it comes from Hong Kong, I automatically assume that it's a counterfeit.

Well, I love the sony 7506, are lightweight and robust I use them for 10 years and have never had any problem with them (I have 4) in the ebay photo I see no difference with which I bought in USA, I bought a pair of those Chinese to see if there is any difference.

I have the Sonys also for many years now and they are great.  Comes down to personal preference I guess...

If the Sony's are being bought from China from Ebay then most likely they are fake, I bought some of those and even if they are fake I like them alot.

Here is mu original thread from the Hi Fi board asking if mine were real.

I'm not sure if it is recent, but the price seems to have come down.  Didn't they used to be close to $100?  I think they are something like $85 at B&H.  The V600 model is even cheaper.

No need to go to Ebay at these prices.

Richard,

I think you're right. The 7506 was at or very close to $100 for awhile and now its $15 less. It seems the m50s are now at $160 at b&h which seems more than I paid.
