Title: Do minime's have A touchy spdif connection?
Post by: Kindguy on November 18, 2007, 12:14:03 AM
SSIA is this a common problem with MME's?

Thanks
Jeff

mine did.  Best bet for zero issues is use the aes and go aes>spdif.  Bet there are plenty of cable makers here that will make a good on for ya.

I ran a MiniMe for years and never had a problem with the S/PIDF.

Mine might feel a little loose but it always transfers just fine.  Usually if I have problems, it is with the cable.

maybe I should elaborat with my experience.  If pressure was pushed inwards on the connector while in operation, it would flake for a split second.  I used a microtrack at the time.  MT's particularly don't do well with an interrupted digi signal.

However, this does not tarnish my opinion of the minime, which, is of the highest accord.  I miss my minime, just a damn akward size for field taping.  I bet I pick one up again though.   ;D

I have a chance to pick one up cheap. 400 bucks for a rev c. Coax out is real flakey though.

x2

helluva deal.  If  you decide to sell down the line, I'll buy it.  aes is the way to go anyhow.

I had that issue as well and just got a canare 110 to 75 ohm transformer, snapped that into the aes out and hook up your spdif cable

bingo.
you guys...whats the problem w/running your MMe in a bag sideways?
almost all of the real gear backs have side access.  its not a hassle in the slightest.

It's not, since I've seen your setup.  I also run a sonicase.  I used to run it in the accessory pouch but didn't like the exposed wires.  Think I'm going back to apogee in the near future.  Might try the mmp this time around.

it is like 10x better sounding than the mme.
to my ears any way.

Got any pics of this "sideways" setup.  It would be sweet to run a mmp -> mme but I'm always concerned with space.

I too have thought about trying the MMP/E combo in the future.
I'll def. go back to some apogee box in the future but like most can't stand the size!

On the Mme I had, the spdif would barely even set. The hole was like douple the size of the pin!
It would've prolly been an easy fix, but the AES is bombproof, so I figured why bother.

four-hun-do is a steal!!!!!!!!

you could easily run both of them in one bag.  w/all kinds of room for a deck, batteries, mics..etc.
you just access stuff via the side.  if you wanted, you could run the bag vertically too, so it would be facing you.
I prefer to "set it and forget it", then just check levels on the deck to make sure everything is running smoothly.

im running mine right now nak rx505>kindkables>mme>kindkables coax>mt and its fine...although the connection of the coax isnt as 'tight' as some.  never had a prob with it locking the signal to the mt/mini me/DAT...

i like the aes/ebu option....where can i score a non right angle aes>coax or an adapter?  my aes is right angle and for my app (desktop) its not practical.

Well, I finally got bit a couple of times by this flakey female SPDIF connector on my mini-me.  What do I have to do to fix it, and what causes the bad connection?

I already tried an AES/Spdif attenuated transformer, but my D8 won't accept a pro signal (gives me the bogus "Tape Protect" error).  I'm stuck........ :-\

Gonna get a new RA Male RCA put on my patch cable, give that a whirl first......

IME the MME has a more recessed jack. I could not get my Zaolla spdif to lock on. The barrel was not long enough to get all the way to the plug effectively.

had the same problem running MME > spdif > MT... for a long time, i thought it was the MT, but i figured it out after many incomplete recordings  :P no problems running out of the aes though

Ahhh, I can't lock onto the AES, even properly attenuated, with a D8.

Anyone properly repair or replace the jack?  Would Apogee fix this?   ???

strange, i used the AES out of both my AD500E & AD1000 > D7/D8, but never tried with the MME...not sure what the difference is...

i sent mine to Nick (schoepsnbox) to have some custom knobs put on the trim pods.  When he got it open he noticed the rca digital output had bad solder joints.  He took care of that for me.  I knew there was an issue, thats why I had Ed (kind kables) make me a AES>RCA cable.  I bought the mme from YS and the spdif went loose and started shorting out the second show ???
Apogee said they would fix it, but finding someone here might be faster....

Well, took the plunge and called Apogee, got a RMA#, and sent it in.  I'll keep you updated.  Supposed to have a ten business day turnaround.

(Mine actually acts as if the female RCA SPDIF on the minime does not grip the center pin on any of my SPDIF cables properly.  I hope they have a good fix....)
