Running mics I would be patient for the UA-5..cheap and easy.
sbm-1 w/ the 7 pin optical & PS-2...they are around, just have to be in the right place at the right time...keeps things small.
Or if you patch have a coax to optical made...bet ToddR would give it a shot or, maybe leegeddy....if you have to just get a hosa converter for patching.

Taping, it's a team sport!

thanks soooo much for all your feedback......I think I am going to get a ua-5 from somewhere.......seems to be the most simple unit for power and adc......everyones thoughts are much appricated......Im gonna try  terrapinj's suggestion and check out the jb3's adc, but I fear it will sound sub-par for what I am after.  Thanks again and keep on taping!!!!!!!!!!!!

a T+ mod UA5 just went up in the YS.  It sounds as good as V3  :scared: for half the price.

To some ears, yes.  To others, no.  People should decide for themselves.  There's a reason I keep my V3.  :)

or here is a DIY digi-modded one for $250.  The only thing that sucks about DIY ones is you can't send it to Oade and get the mods done (W=warm, T=Transparent, P=Presence)

you can still send it to busman2 though to get it modded, so its not like you'll be stuck forever with the stock sounding box if you don't want it.

I could not help myself and bought this right away.....I will play with it stock for a bit and then have it modded......now more listening and research to determine if I like the W, T, or P mod :)  Not to mention these mics, not sure if they will sound good, but I have to start somewhere!

the only mod you can get with that is the busman2.  Oade will not do the mod on UA-5's he did not sell

Maybe I am mis-remembering, but I thought you cannot use a UA-5s with an NJB without a mod.

good idea...I ran into that several other times myself but it never let me go all the way through the payment process.....so is this true that the ua-5 has to be modded to work with a njb3?  I thought just the other way around, worked stock?

check the FAQ or search around, in a nutshell the ua-5 does not provide a digi/coax out signal without being hooked up to a computer, the digimod bypasses that requirement, the oade and busman2 mods improve the sound of the box

definately read up and search around - the ua-5 is such a common pre/ad that almost any questions you have will be covered (probably multiple times) also check out the team ua-5 threadhttp://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=48735.0 lots of good info on the busman2 mod and other general questions. don't be afraid to ask questions here, but don't be lazy like a lot of people can be and expect everyone to just tell you everything without you doing any of the groundwork, we're more than happy to help but you gotta be willing to take on a good bit of the learning effort for yourself - good call on the ua-5 you'll be happy you held out for it.
