Title: Another THICK Optical cable option
Post by: spyder9 on June 13, 2005, 10:16:48 AM
I just bought 2 of these at 1.5 feet each, along with a set of RAs.  $25.00 shipped. Jacket is 7.5mm thick.  Twice the thickness of the SP cable.  Metal tips.  They even have it in 1 foot lengths.

Company is located in Cheektowaga, NY (Buffalo area).  Shipping is UPS Ground for $5.70.  The 1.5ft toslink is $5.50 each.  RAs are $4.50 each.  No minimum order.

That's a nice looking cable.  If only someone made a beefy cable with integrated right-angles - toslink one side, mini the other...   :-\

I've scoured the internet for a beefy RA integrated cable and to no avail.  Maybe someday .....

I should have these cables in hand by the Wednesday.  Thursday at the latest.  1 day ship between Buffalo and Syracuse.  Figure a day to pull them from their inventory and prepare to ship.

I'll post a picture of the cable next to a similar SP cable.

Cables arrived today.  Very nice construction.  RAs snap in nice and tight, absolutely no movement between the RA and cable.  The jacket is of hard plastic as opposed to the rubber-type jacket that is prevalent on the SP model and my Kimber OPT1.  The hard plastic jacket is also not quite as flexible as the rubber-type, which should help prevent kinking problems, but that's just my HMO.  Definitely more beefier than the SP model.  But, the Kimber is the beefiest of the 3.  I'll up a picture of the 3 tonight.

I'll probably still order the ViaBlue toslink (Beefy Thread) for comparative purposes.  I hate toslink issues.   So a few extra bucks to find the right one, will pay dividends in the long run.   ;D

Here it is.  SP clone on top.  My cable (silver) in the middle, and Kimber OPT1 on the bottom.  Kimber obviously is the biggest and has a plastic tip.  It retails for $60.00.  The Mycable retails for $5.50.  Not too shabby.   ;)

Ran this cable twice.  The RA into the UA-5 sucks.  Had some clicking.  I removed it and ran straight into the UA5.  Perfect, no issues, nice tight connection.  RA for JB3 works fine.  If you run upright, with ample spacing, going w/o the preamp RA is the way to go.  Solid cable if you can find some good RAs.

I can second that using the RA's added some clicks to my recordings.   >:(

I have those RAs on my Kimber OPT1 cable.  Yep, the Cablestogo RAs are fantastic.  I gotta get a few more.  Thanks John, forgot where I found those.
