R1 analog vs JB3 digital
« on: November 09, 2004, 02:23:37 AM »
I'm trying to buy my first rig, and as it seems that a hd recorder is the way to go, I was wondering about how the Edirol R-1 compares to the JB3.

Mainly, what I'm wondering about is:

The R1 can record at 24bits/96KHz, while the JB3 can only record at 16bits/44KHz. I know that this makes a difference, but I'm not sure how much.

With that in mind, I also know that the R-1 does not have a digital in, but the JB3 does.

So, because the R-1 records a 24bit signal and has a sampling rate of 96KHz, does this trump the analog in, with regards to the JB3?

Or does the digital in make more of a difference?

Are there other options for higher signal recording / sampling rates, besides the R-1 that are portable?

i'd personally buy the jb3 now for cheap, wait a year and then upgrade.  all of the new digital recorders are just coming out, there are going to be options we don't even know about yet that will far surpass both of these options.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

That is a very likely course of action.

while the JB3 can only record at 16bits/44KHz.

It can actually do 16/48....just FYI.

Yeah and the R1 will only do 24/44.1, not 24/96.
