I quit booze 15 years ago but drinking a water or a soda during the show - for sure. More often than not I'll have a friend in the audience who will get me a refill during the show because once i get into my desired spot I'm likely not moving for a few hours. I never drink enough to put myself in danger of exploding. However no food whatsoever before the show. I'm not risking needing to go #2 for the obvious reasons and plus many clubs have such awful facilities I'll do anything to not have to use the restroom.
Funny story about The Cabooze in Minneapolis and why using the bathroom during the show is hazardous. There was a period of time around early 2000's when I would frequently see Joey Molland (original Badfinger guitarist) all over Minneapolis in the audience at shows and he was always insanely drunk. One night at the Cabooze I walked into the bathroom and while I'm standing at a urinal doing my thing I hear a voice with a British accent behind me just cursing up a storm. I didn't see anyone else in the bathroom when i walked in so I was surprised that someone else was in there too. The voice was coming from one of the stalls and the Cabooze had removed all of the doors on the stalls. In his stupor for some reason this person thought I worked at the Cabooze and he starts giving me an earful about the 'no door' policy in the bathroom. At this point I cant see anybody still but I'm trying my best to finish up my business and get out of there ASAP. I'm trying to agree with the voice and I'm replying to the verbal abuse barrage I was getting that the no stalls is complete BS but there was nothing I could do. Just as I finish, start zipping up, and turn to walk to the exit there's a knee walking intoxicated Joey Molland with his pants down around his ankles holding a roll of TP getting in my face. He's yelling so much he's bright red and he spitting all over the place. I realize who it is and I just start laughing at how ridiculous this whole scene is and I just get the f out there and go back out to where the stage is hoping Joey doesnt follow me and/or catch up with me later. Fortunately that was the last I saw of him that night. I'm guessing he got '86'd and poured into a cab.
