Matrix WaveLab 5.0
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:34:35 AM »
I've got an AUD and a SBD that I recorded with my R4.  I recorded at
24/48 and each set is one file (total of 4 files).

I'd like to mix this down as a matrix.  The AUD mics were placed,
I'll say about, 7 feet from the PA stacks.  I've searched here a bit
for information about doing this and there seems to be many opinions
on how to get it done, ranging from splitting the SBD up into smaller
chunks and aligning manually (groan) to using the time stretch feature.

Time stretch sounds like it is easier (less time consuming at least).
So, do I stretch either the AUD or SBD before going into the montage
and mixing it down?  I noticed the time stretch option (Process >
Time Stretch) is not available in the montage, only in the WAV
editor.  Should each set be stretched as a whole or individual tracks?

Anyone care to give me a quick education?

Thanks.

Holy shit....  Damn.  Stretching the AUD 99.009 there is a MAJOR
echo.  Way worse than the masters without any modification.  I
ran 483's on the AUD, so was I "close enough" to the PA to avoid
any real dealy to start with?  I really don't hear much, if any, delay
in the master tracks when in the montage.  I am testing this with
one song.

Your 2 sources don't match up (time wise) with both tracks recorded on the same R4?

You should just have to shift one source one way or the other to match the other.

because all tracks were recorded with the same digital clock (in this case, the same deck), NO time stretching will be necessary.  Time stretching is only needed when trying to mix channels recorded with different clocks, and over time, the signals get slowly out of sync with each other.

However, because of a small amount of time delay between the sbd and the aud recording, you may have to shift the aud recording ONCE (at the beginnging) to line up with the sbd recording.  Once the two are lined up, however, the recordings will stay synced for the entire set.

Thanks for the reply.

The attached sample is a mixdown of both aud and sbd with
no adjustments for aligment.  It might be hard to tell with such
a short clip but I surely do not hear a delay.  You?

This is better for mixing 2 sources with different clocks. I need to re-do that, as the time stretch function works much better and quickly.
