Title: Small panel mount fuse options
Post by: Chuck on April 25, 2007, 09:24:41 AM
I need to add a fuse to a piece of gear, but the typical panel mounts like in the photo are too big, even with the ones for the miniature glass fuses.
I need another option, but I can't find anything. Just wondering if one of you knows of a better option. I need the fuse to be replaceable without cracking open the box, so it has to have access from the outside.

There are a few choices if this is an AC powered device... As you know if its powered by AC you have to get the ac into the box... One simple way is using this http://www.schurterinc.com/wwwsc/con_pg05.asp?page_nr=2&page_res=20

Yeah, this is battery powered. I may have to go digging around at the local surplus electronics warehouse.

I see if its battery powered you might want to build the fuse into the end of the power connector. Using a surface mount fuse you would be able to protect your gear.. You are always going to have issues.. But you could use a 4 pin power connector of some type use two of the pins for power and the other two pins could "loop back" inside the box for the fuse.. :) That way if the fuse did blow you could replace it with out having to "open" the box.
