NAD 314 Questions

(1/1)

crunchy:
I am starting to build a home playback system, I was looking around and lots of people have been recommending the NAD 370 integreated amp. I havent been able to find a used 370 but I did see a NAD 314 Integrated amp over on audigon. Would this be a good place to start, is $170 a good price for it? I am on a somewhat limited buget, with about $300 - $350 to spend. It provides 35 watts per channel, is that good? Sorry for my lack of knowlege.

Needs more power if you ask me..75 w minimum!

Brian Skalinder:
Power is good, but keep in mind clean lower wattage power is generally better than raw wattage in a noisier, weaker piece of gear.  Apologies, but I don't know anything about the NAD 314, other than NAD in general makes good stuff.

And Daryan, I think it's too early to say 35W is not enough power - it depends in large part on what speakers he's driving.

Bob - if you haven't already, check out www.audioreview.com.  Don't sweat the occasional pan over there, but if there are consistent remarks about a particular piece - either good or bad - keep 'em in mind.

FWIW, I find playback gear much more difficult to R&D than recording gear - there are soooooo many options out there, and I'm not strong on the tech side, so in the past I've used Audioreview a lot as well as people's opinions I trust.

You can get by with 35w but it depends on what speakers you have. I have the NAD 370 and really like it for the money and size... I didn't have a few thousand to throw down on a pre and amp combo and I sure as hell don't have room for them either.

I got mine off of ebay... Good luck!!
