Title: Going back to PC from Mac
Post by: lastubbe on February 19, 2019, 11:26:23 AM
I’m back to using PC for the first time for music since 2005.  Really digging the Surface line.

What is everyone using nowadays to processs ?  I see a lot of Soundfroge, CD Wave, Foobar, TLH etc etc.

Not looking for anything too fancy just want to process music like I normally do on a Mac.

Thanks and hope everyone in the community is well!

There seem to be plenty of options.  I use Audacity, but mostly just because it's what I know.  Since it's free you can give it a shot and all you have to lose is your time.  I imagine others have at least free trials as well, so try a bunch and see what works for you.

WaveLab is good and there are some people that use it here. I like CuBase, because I use it at work, but it's overkill for most of the stuff people do here.

I use Wavelab version 6, CD Wave Editor and Traders Little Helper for most stuff.

The beauty of Audacity is it is cross-platform. So if you ever jump back to Apple, or *nix, zero learning curve...

Reaper is available for both Mac and Windows.
Trial versions are free and its a very "lite" program.  You could load it on the Mac you are familiar with, do the same on your new Windows PC, and ease into using it exclusively on Windows.

(also... I am a WNY native and love your tapes.  Much love from NOLA.)

Thanks everyone for the input !  Going to test out a few options.

As of now Windows Defender built into Windows 10 is refusing to allow me to download TLH.

Going to try something different.

You need TLH!  I've never seen defender block it.  Perhaps turn off SmartScreen temporally.  What browser?  If using Edge stop and use Chrome.

Why do you need a clean copy are certain versions loaded with Trojans or something?or does win 10 just not like unzipped exe files?
