Title: Edirol fa-101
Post by: Tyler McGhee on August 13, 2004, 06:23:31 PM
I know this is still a pretty new piece of gear and i've searched the archives for this info...

does the fa-101 require the same power as the ua-5?  i am thinking of getting
one of these and am trying to figure out how to power it before i dive in.

I saw Nick's Picks post about his batter solution, but was wondering if there
were an easier way? ???

is there any way to use the walmart li-on batteries to power this?

any info is appreciated!

I'm also wondering about this... I only have 4-pin firewire on my laptop, so I've had to use AC power the few times I've used it so far.  If anyone has some input on powering the FA-101, I'd appreciate it!  Thanks...

Andrew

Yo!

yea, it takes 9v.
the wall wart outputs 9.5v (unlike the UA-5 whos AC input is 12v).
the pisser is that it has a .950mAh draw.  That said, you'd need at least 5amps to be comfortable on a two set show.  Maybe 4 if you like to play that game.

I gave an RS 12v adapter plug that outputs a selectable voltage of either 4, 6, 9 or 12v from any 12v DC source.  I hacked this up (it had a lighter jack input) and made a straight power cable out of it and use spades to attach it to a 12v 5amp or 7amp SLA.
sucks to carry lead around, but I have not found a better solution (for free as I had all of those parts laying around).  I believe the walmart 9v lithium Ion DVD power pack is 5amps.  That would work pretty well, i'm sure.  But I was not about to drop $40 for it when I had all the supplies to make my own.
sucks to be cheap.

But, once you get over that then you set.  Its a nice sounding piece of gear for short money.

have you had any success multitracking yet?

I read your earlier posts about the show you tried to multitrack.

thanks for the info!

the wal mark lithium is 5400mAh.  I guess it is going to require a good deal of batteries to power my laptop and this thing.  Hopefully, I will like the sound of it when all is said and done.

I haven't tried any more multi-tracking yet.

as far as the sound.  think UA-5 w/a little more detail
