SX-M2 external battery?
« on: June 05, 2008, 02:33:38 PM »
does anyone use external batteries with their sonosax?

if yes, which ones?

do you know if the "DVD batteries" will work with the sonosax? If so, can someone make me a cable?
:)

best,
ian

Manual says 12-24v dc, so 9v dvd batteries are out unless you wire two in series.

I bought a 14.8v lithium ion pack that also had 3-12v output options for when I need to power other gear, but it arrived DOA. It should work but I haven't been able to confirm that yet.

I used a 12v sla and it worked fine. While the red light will blink faster because it is below 14v, it is ok.

I tried to use two wally world bats in series through a segue juice box vr, pass through to the sax and another to output 5v for the microtarcker and it produces interference. They would work seperatly, but not together. I believe shaggy also encountered this issue...

it velcros right to the sax w/o much additional size added.  weighs nearly nothing.

My problem is i don't know how to solder, and don't have the equipment.
Need to come up with something for rothbury fest -

fozzy, how do you use that battery? did you wire up your own plug on there? how long does it take to charge?

someone else posted this in the other thread:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1287
which looks decent...

need to come up with a solution ASAP

i have the RC pack which was given to me by the guy i got the sax from. but i have no idea how long it'll run for, or how long to charge.... they are old, and i want something newer & reliable.

I like the 18v better because its voltage range is from 12-22 volts through the charge cycle.

I wired it up w/ an extension cable from digi-key  came w/ one female and one male end.

the bike led will work too but you may notice the sax cut-off of poor performance as the voltage drops below 12v.

I use an Astroflight 109 to charge all my li-ion packs.

Yea no problem.

The digikey part number for the cable I used is  CP-2219-ND

You will need one of these cables per battery and one per charger.

This looks like this is the most cost effective charger for 18V li-ion

You guys should talk and arrange to get some supplies together and save on shipping.

If you ship the materials to me I will fix em up for return shipping and a beer.

Ian, this is what you want right here:

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1529

I've got this one and it works fine. You can use the cable that comes with it, or you may want to have a new one made.

60 hours?  Are you sure about that?  I would believe 6, but 60!

I calculate 42 hours at max draw, so under the right conditions 60 is a definite possibility. I get 21 hours easily with my set up.

yup, three complete cycles.  exact same results.  full rig, mk4v > kcy5 > KS10 > lemosax > 722 (24/48)
I have a 120 gig HD which allows ~118 hrs @ 24/48
722 was on AC b/c i can only run it ~30hrs off battery.
