if anyone is looking to upgrade their speakers, this is something to jump on, IMO.  probably never replace them.

You are SO fucking psyched, you dont even know it yet!
whats the rest of your system behind these puppies?
They can take a lot of power, but dont need it.  75w of tubes or at least 150w of SS/digital and you'll be fine.
Get ready to have your chest pounded into submission.
:)

I've got lots of tips for setting these up too.  How big is the room?
Best if you can space these at least 10'.  Better in the 12' range.  Minimal toe in.  You'll see !  They are big, but you'll never notice them when the music plays.  They image like little monitors.  simply amazing.
and these are GEN II !!  Super score.  You love it!

One requirement,...you'll need jumpers at least 30" long.  connect the speaker cables to the treb/mid top piece, and then jump down to the bottom drivers from there.  Bi-wire will never work because of the distance between the posts.  Unless...that is something that changed from GEN I to GEN II.

Congrats Craig, and a fat ol' +T to you!

Frank, are yours bi-wired with a double run of cable?  I think Nick is right that your average bi-wire cable with both runs in a single sheath only give you about 12" of play at the end.

I'm fully aware of the VR4 magic.  I've spent many hours in front of Franks system.

Right now I have a Cayin TA30 with full TAD mods from www.2baudio.com (30wpc tube integrated) and a Panasonic xr45.  That will have to do for now...  I had both amps over on Franks VR4's and they sounded very nice.

you must have some long ass bi-wires.  I couldn't find any.
I have custom cable, and the jumpers are made from the same stock.

Frank, I was under the impression that you were bi-amped (tube highs and solid state lows), not just bi-wired. Maybe that'd clear up some of the confusion.

I think this is the ultimate way to run them.
I'd love to do this as well.  Maybe next time.

Well Craig...your pumped for sure.   Even cooler that you are familiar w/their sound.  Although, i'm surprised you found a 30wpc tube amp sufficiant.  I tried the 50wpc Stingray and it couldn't cut the mustard.  Its all about the room...and your volume/impact tastes I suppose.

Frank...
I didn't read all the way through before responding.  When will I learn?
So you've got a double wire setup.  That works.  The next set of wires I'm gong to try and hard connect the jumpers to the end of the speaker wires before clamping on the spade.  That way it will be one connection intead of the dual system I use now w/spades and banannas up top and spade below.

You're right, I did... but my GTA SE-40 is sitting dormant right now because of a blown rectifier, so I have the Parasound running in a bi-wired config.

You actually are splitting the tweeter and woofer wires at the speakers and reconnecting them together at the amp ?
Why ?
Inductive circuit is then added to the speaker.
Long Wire = LC circuit.  This is the argument against bi-wiring.
The (presumed) benefit of biamping and frequency split before the cable run is supposed to be a greater benefit than the "cost" of adding the wire's reactance.
Is the amp doing "bass management" and providing the split for you with high and low freq-outs ? That would make sense.

I'm just starting to get back into playback and alot has changed.
I won't even tell you that back in the sixties I sold off a pair of old Scott monos as inefficient and troublesome "boat anchors" when I went SS.   Uh, I guess I said it.....
We used to scoff at bi-amping for home systems as well. Overkill, like feeding a big McIntosh into JBL horns.
Well, like I said, alot has changed.

Anyone using a low-power SE amp ? We used to think these as "cheapish" compared to the P-P powerhouses.
Now, I'm looking at a circuit for one and rechecking my speaker efficiency to deceide if it'd be worth building.
Full circle.

These are not internally connected, they are two sep cabinets.  Signal has to get to the woofer module somehow.

Ah, yes, the modular Von Schweikerts....
What does the frequency split to each driver ?
Is it at the amp or at the speaker ?

I'd take a shot that the frequency is controlled by crossovers built directly in the cabinets.. That's how most all speakers work I think...

Then biwiring from amp to speaker could be a mistake. Cable runs are LCR(reactive) circuits.
I guess it best to go with manufacturer's recommendations.
If no method is suggested, then I would wire straight out and split at the speaker.

Bi-Amping implies a frequency split at the line level before the multiple output amps.

I went to school outside philly (villanova) and graduated in 2000... Anyway, I've been back to philly a couple times this year and I'm really impressed with how much cleaner it is now.  I remember taking a wrong turn at 4am coming back from Pat's once and actually being afraid for my life... I don't get the same vibe there anymore.

Oh yeah, the Linc is pretty dope too.

I remember coming down to city with my parents as a kid in the early 70's, and it was filthy and smelly.  The town went through hard times, but it's getting better all the time now.

Like Kevin Bacon says in the TV spot, "You're gonna love the arts in Philadelphia."   Unfortunately, we don't have city planners like his father, Ed Bacon, anymore.  I suspect there's far too much bureurcracy involved to attract people with visionary talents these days... not to mention the absence of a budget.    Ed was responsible for the Market East station and the Penn Center office complexes, for example.  A fascinating gentleman.  In deference to the law, he even skateboarded (with help) in Love Park at the age of 92.
