SD Card Help!!!
« on: January 02, 2011, 08:48:23 PM »
Hopefully someone can help me out here.  I accidentally removed my SD card from my computer before the files were completely transferred.  I was able to salvage the stuff I needed thankfully.

Unfortunately, when I put the card back into the camera it says "Card Read Error".  If I pu the card back into the computer reader it does not show up as a locatable drive.

At this point, all I want to do is reformat the card but I cannot get anything to recognize it.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

I don't want to buy another SD card if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance!

Put card in computer. Boot from a live Linux disc. If card is recognized format it. Unmount card and place in camera and format card in camera. If Linux doesn't recognize the card I doubt anything will and you'll probably have to replace it.

Only other thing I might recommend is to use PhotoRec (do a search here on TS for several posts about it or google it) and recover what you can using it then see if the card is recognized by either device. It's been so long since I've used PhotoRec I don't recall if there is a format option available in the program.
