md transfer Q's
« on: March 03, 2006, 04:16:12 PM »
how do you MD transfer to the harddrive?  I'm doing some transfers and the only out put on the MD player is the headphone.  I was gonna go opti > hosa > coax> soundcard but there isn't a opti out.  I can go mini rca/xlr > v3  > soundcard.  I guess that's my best bet.

I've transferred MD's in the past by running headphone out> RCA ins on my UA-5; usb> computer.

I would do the same with the v3, of course without usb but coax  ;)

most MD decks don't have a digi out unfortunately.  Home stand alone decks usually do though.  they are pretty cheap on ebay, and I think I remember someone on this board offering to do digi MD transfers for a small fee??  other wise you gotta either do an external AD like you mentioned or go analog in if your computer allows it.  Depending on make and model you can probably set the headphone out to line out instead and that will help.  it will bypass the headphone pre in the deck (which is probably pretty crappy!)  the hosa or ua5 or v3 like you mention will work just fine if you already have them but are awfully pricey to buy just for trasfers!  If you have to buy something to get this done I would get a griffin imic or somethin similar off ebay.  thats a small external usb audio i/o.  that'll set you back less that $30.00 and then just capture the audio in program like audacity or sound studio.

The town pump, damn that place is tiny.  Where was the basement?  I'm not really sure where the Hookah bar is in town.  ???

That's some old school stuff right there.  Looking forward to hearing it!
