Topic: 4 channel Mono Mixing ( r-4 content)

Quick question.  What program are most of yall using to mix your 4 channel recordings into a 2 channel stereo.

I recorded Galactic with the r-4 (4 channels mono).  Now SF8 or WL5 will not open the fileset.  Any advice on what program/how to mix the 4 channel recordings?

also...encode raw M/S data into a stereo recording using wavelab.  I've looked and searched and still cant figure it out.

honestly, I'd pry use a multitrack program like cubase or samplitude

WaveLab, Audacity, Audition, and Samplitude all handle 4 x mono files.  I'm sure other apps do, too.  Simply import / open each mono file independently in the editor's appropriate multitrack view.

I guess the problem is that the R-4 labeled the 4 mono-track recording as "scene 10".  When I imported "scene 10" to my computer it does not break down into the 4 individual tracks....but when playing "scene 10" on the r-4 all four channels show up.

Any help?

Are you sure you recorded 4 x mono, i.e. 4 individual files?  If so, you should have four files like:  1.wav, 2.wav, 3.wav, 4.wav.  Sounds more like you recorded 1 x 4-ch, in which case you may have scene10.bwf (if you recorded in BWF format) or scene10.wav (if WAV format), which is comprised of 4 tracks within a single WAV or BWF file.

I think Audacity can handle 1 x 4-ch, but don't recall specifically - only that I think I've done it before.  I'm not at home to test myself, so I think not much more I can offer at this point.

If you've recorded BWF, I recall someone mentioning a utility previously for breaking out 4-ch BWF into individual tracks.  Might even be in the "Where do I find..." thread.

FWIW.  CEP and Audacity will open those files and you can copy and paste the mono files into a stereo set.
