Can anyone recomend a reasonably priced, portable, battery powered headphone amplifier??

The amp ont he DA-P1 isn't powerful enough for the louder rock shows...

do you want it to be? I'd advise against putting headphones on and cranking them to the level that you can monitor at a loud rock show.

look into the etymotics if you must monitor at a loud rock show. If you're only doing a 2 mic stereo recording I've never seen the point in "monitoring".

seriously, you don't want to crank up your headphones to that level you are really going to damage your ears.

look at the etymotics, that is what you should be using if you still want to be able to hear a few years from now.

you need a 4 head deck in order to actually hear what is being written down to tape anyway, HHb is the only 4 head portable deck in regular use

nah, I normally run sbd -> D8 and aud -> DA-P1, I can switch the amp from deck to deck...

Altho it'd be nice to have one, I'm also debating on hauling more weight around int he bag.. hehe.

right so if you are getting distortion, static, diginoise you're not going to be able to hear it unless you have a 4 head deck

not sure where you might've heard that, but the rumors are in fact true.

if that's the case that is one hell of a steal for a fine, fine deck

There was some discussion on headphone amps a while back in the Playback forum.  Maybe there's some info there?  Dunno...don't recall the details much, but give it a try.
