--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been toying with the idea of getting into recording, ever since i purchased my new JB3. This Saturday there is a show, one way or another i was convinced it was time to start recording and decided that this saturday I am going to start.

I have a JB3.
Beyond that I am looking to spend about 600 dollars total.

What mic do you recomend with my budget considering that I still have to buy the rest of my set up.

As far as the Phantom Power is concerend, what should i get and how much will it run me.

I need Gain and a A/D Converter<How much is this? What is the best one to get taking my budget into consideration?

LINKS would be a HUGE help

THank you all for your time!

P.S. THe Okatava Mk-012's are no longer $99 for a pair, it was a January Promotion  to bad that I drove 1 hour to find that out!

cheapest would be, digi mod ua-5, do it yourself, or personnally i'd go through oade http://www.oade.com/digital_recorders/Digital_Converters/Edirol_UA5.html

and for mics look on ebay, find some oktava's, or i've seen some ADK small diaphrams on ebay for cheap.  or the samson C02's don't look so bad for like 200

thats about it, thats probably the cheapes, and easiest way.

My first set-up, i ran AKGc1000s>Zefiro AD-20.
You should be able to find a pair of used AKGc1000s for around $200, and a AD-20 for about the same.  That would be around $400-$450...then you will have $150 to pick up Cables and a Stand.
The c1000s can be powered with 9v's, so you wouldnt need to spend money on a Phantom Power Supply right now. And the AD-20 has an optical out for your JB3.

I made some great recordings with mine, and think it is a perfect beginner's rig.

yea it would be a good beginner rig, joing team akg.  i just don't know how the ad-20 sounds..  i bet it would work real well for ya, but you might wanna upgrade, thats why if you got an oade digi mod ua-5, u could send it back in later, and get the preamp mod upgrade.  i've never tested both the digi mod and warm mod, but i hear that it greatly improves the sound..  thats my .02

Seeing as how i upgraded from the AD-20 to a UA-5pmod, i would definately consider Sexymexi's option also  ;)

You will need a stand and a T-Bar.  You may be able to find them used, but if not, you can grab a new stand from http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home? and the t-bar you can get new from http://micsupply.com/ or http://sonicsense.com/.  Dave who runs Mic Supply is alittle more expensive, but he's very customer service friendly, and if you need stuff quickly, he usually has it there in a day or two.

you might want to check out the stands from this ebay store, they're about the cheapest i've seen and are quite sturdy.  A little bit bigger of a foot print than bogen stands, but a lot cheaper.  I got the 13ft one and it works like a champ.

for an optical cable to go from the ua-5 to the njb3 i use this with this adapter on the end.  The cable is sturdy and its a lot cheaper than the monster cable alternative.

and for mic cables, i'd suggest ordering some canare star quad from markertek.com along with the some neutrik end's and solder them together and you're set.  In fact, you could probably get everything you need for a little over $100.

*Bump*
Thanks to all that helped, I managed to get my rig together, still waiting for some Optical cables but they should be here today.  So here is how it looks, AKG c1000's>UA-5 >NJB3, This should be good for live recodings!?  I shouldnt need any additional gain than the UA-5 generates?  My first recoding is on Sat. it will be in a bar so I am wondering how I should set my mic's up hyper? Windscreen? ect. You guys have helped me so much, thanks a bunch T+ for the help

nope, all the gain you need is in the ua5.  you need windscreens to operate anywhere, especially in a bar if you want to protect your mics.
