coax to optical converter options (Mini Me > JB3)
« on: August 25, 2004, 08:47:39 PM »
Just upgraded ua-5 to a mini me  8), unforunatly just before this my D7 appears to have died (always jams, eating tapes, playing back with diginoise).  There really isnt much point buying another 10+ year old d7/8 so I will be making the switch to a JB3.  Since the mini me is coax out and the jb3 only has optical in what are my options.  I'm looking at a MIDIMAN Co2.

Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

The Hosa ODL-276 is proven to be bit perfect. Where the C02 is not.

or sell the MiniMe and buy a V3 with the optical mod from Grace, and you're all set to go right into the JB3

i'm at least going to TRY the minime  :P
although it is supposed to go very well with gefells compared to the V3.  When I first planned on buying the minime I didn't see my deck dying yet.

It's a tough choice, on the one hand dat is what i'm used to and it means less gear to carry and less new stuff to buy, but a nomad means no more tapes and really fast transfers..

I don't really know what your budget is, but another option is to buy a small laptop and use the USB out of the MiniMe.  and then you can record at 24 bit, and don't have to worry about transfers at all  :)

its really a small footprint, not that bad at all, coax converter/battery/jb3 :)

it really is pros and cons, but what youll save on media will be worth it alone, :) and ble, the transfers

I would consider the laptop except the mini me i bought does not have usb.  I also need something to use for stealthing with my dpa 4061's.

I'm also trying to keep this somewhat affordable..

it's not just the footprint, its more things to forget (or rememeber), and more things to carry to shows.

I am leaning towards jb3 even with the extra stuff, it really is a tough choice heh..

IMO, the extra small batt and Hosa box are a very small price to pay for not having to do real-time transfers - and not shelling out a couple hundred more for a reliable DAT deck.  Go for it: if you don't dig it, you'll be able to unload that stuff easily, there's seemingly always someone looking for an NJB3 or Hosa box.

you can power the hosa odl276 for 10 hours with 1 9 volt alkaline.

paul wont bs you and he'll tell you if the heads are beat. if so then get a new recorder...be it another dat or the jb3
