Omnis or Hypers for Stealth
« on: September 18, 2004, 12:28:52 AM »
Gonna stealth Farm Aid tomorrow.  Got a croakie mount for my ATs.  First and only time I've stealthed I used the omnis.  Any reason to run the hypers?  Mics are on each side of my head...big skull acting as a baffle.

Hmm, I am no stealth expert but I would think hypers if you are somewhat in line with the speakers on that side there.   With omni's I think I'd be worried about getting stuck near some noisy fucks near you and since you have reserved seats can't really move away from them.   Of course if they are directly in front of you you are screwed either way but at least you could minimize them if they are left/right or behind you.

I think if you want to have a "true binaural" recording, you need to run the omni's...
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

I'm under the impression that if you use hypers you better stand really still.

I always use omni's for steath. Usually turns out great.

This makes sense... I have also had good luck using my omni's for stealth, but when I have them near my ears (they are an SP model that is built into the headphones) the recording is very sensitive to head turns...

The Omnis will be less sensitive to movement than the hypers.

i haven't stealthed with hypers yet, but i think it all matters on positioning and what kind of show its for.  if girls are going to be screaming behind you, the omnis might not be the best choice.  however, its farm aid, so i doubt that will happen too much.

All of the small capsule stealth omni shows I've heard (and made) tend to sound hollow and boomy to me, I would go with cardioids.
