Topic: Condensing 3 disc shows down to 2

I posted this same comment in this thread but wanted to bring it out here to give it some more exposure.

I condensed this into 2 discs by burning d1t01-d2t03 to the first and d2t04-d3t03 to the second.  I don't trade much audio with anybody so I'm not passing it on, just curious of what other people thinking of trading shows like that.

I also never do this if it breaks up a segued series of songs.

Personally, I like the way it was originally set up. I like to keep sets on seperate discs, and as complete as possible. Don't know why, I'm just goofy like that.  If that means 3 discs instead of 2, or well, blanks are pretty cheap these days.

How is it any less complete than having the last three songs from the 2nd set on another disc?  Most band are going pretty good at the end of a set.  Guess I would rather not have to swap discs and break that energy at the end of a set.  For me, it's not so much of a cost thing as space issue.  I've got a small collection relative to some people.  Let's out of 600 shows, I could save a disc on 100...that's a full spindle worth of space saved.

Well, you kind of answered your own question...Why break up the flow of a show. Set 1 disc 1, set 2 disc 2 and encore disc 3. Again, this is just how I prefer it, there is no right or wrong, I don't think. With putting a 3 disc show on 2 discs, you break up the continuity of set 2, but if you rather have the end of the second set and the encore flow there's no problem with that. And one way to think of it too, the encore is usually a few minutes after the last song anyway, swapping discs makes it more real  . I usually will put all 3 discs (or whatever it is) in the changer and just let it do all the work anyway.

Yeah, I just re-read the original kickdown post. I think that split may not have been the greatest, I was talking more in general terms. I've gotten into the habit, when seeding shows, letting the end user decide where the want to split. It really all comes down to general preference.

I had a hard time finding a good place to make the switch.  added a little fade and I think it worked well.  as for the topic do whatever you want for your own listening.l

no real good place to split it.  and it wouldn't fit on one disc.  I was goona try and put just the encore on the end of disc one but that didn't work either.
