Recorded for about 10 hours at the roo.  3.5 solid outside in direct sunlight(while running about 7 hours overall).  JB3 was in targus bag covered with a bandana.  Never had a single problem with the recorder.  Only problem I had was with the optical cable coming from the UA5.

Hm. Well, I don't have a problem with my optical connection...yet...(finds some wood to knock on)...

guess each unit might have its own little quirks (?)

Overall, I'm really happy with the ease of use and the lack of media required to tape using the JB3. I'm gonna stick with it (and might just get a second unit someday and ditch the DA P1) :)

At the very least, this will block all the mind control beams sent by all those government-sponsored satellites......

when you're done with it you could sell it to some spun w00k as the ultimate clothing accessory.

Mine overheated during Los Lonely boys (30 mins in).  It was sitting in the pouch all zipped up in my backpack.  It was hot as hell in there and i should have known better.  I fired it back up after i realized it was off and a few minutes later it over heated again.  I lowered my stand and wrapped it up and put it in my roomates camelback to cool down for yonder.  during yonder i took a beach towell and clamped onto my stand and the guy next to me to make a shade cover.  Didn't have any problems after that.

Mine seems INCREDIBLY heat sensitive...I put mine (in its flight case) in my car...the car was hot from sitting in the sun...and I did run back in the house once...so it couldn't have been in the car more than 10 minutes before I left for a 1 hour air-conditioned ride to a friends house...when I arrive...take the case in...the JB3 wont start...wont get past the boot screen...let it sit for 30-40 minutes in his air conditioned basement...finally it works.

I dont think this unit would have even started at B'Roo...

The unit never feels warm...I havent even used the batteries yet...I figure they must generate some heat...

I've seen at STAPLES some "Laptop Cooling Mats" that might be handy for JB3 users...they look like a thick slice of swiss cheese...and would likely run off DC...I'll check them out when I go to town next. I would even consider drilling some holes in my unit if it would bring it up to DAT-like reliability...

I take a small chair, fan, margarita and self-massager to keep my JB3 "cool"  :P. JK. I havn't had any problems with mine at all, I keep it out of direct sunlight though so IDK.

mine shut down once, it was zipped up in a bag w/ ps2 and ad20. I left it open after that and no problems. The key is breathing room, I keep it in a jean jacket pocket most stealth jobs (try to swing it back and forth slightly for air)and never had a problem yet.

Had mine shut down last night at an outdoor show after the sun went down.  Had my bag open but the JBS was vertical with the back resting against the seperater between the it and the UA-5 which was also getting pretty warm.  Shut off 12 minutes into the second set.

could we perhaps hack the firmware such that the device ignores the heat threshhold?  or that such a thresshold can be defined on the fly?

that would suck for the one time the jb3 is about to actually melt, but ... in all other cases it would make for happier customers.

creative, hear our plea!  user-definable heat threshholds are a must!
