V3 to multiple dat decks
« on: September 01, 2004, 09:42:35 AM »
OK, so I am considering trying to borrow a V3 for the Acoustic Planet show on Friday night and since the show runs `4 hours, I was going to run 2 dat decks, starting the second, midway through the show so I dont miss any of it.  So I would be running Mics>V3>D100>M1...I am assuming that I would need to continue running the D100 to pass a signal through...right?  Assuming this is the case, then this model wont work, because eventually the lead deck will stop.  Do I have any other options?  (and no JB3 is not an option :) )

Run one off the coax, and the other off the AES1 consumer output.  I've run AES1 XLR / coax cable (both with and without an impedance transformer) > D100 with fine results.  Just make sure the AES1 is set to output a consumer signal.  I believe the default jumpers are set to consumer signal, not pro.

Or just run a coax splitter right outta the V3, before both decks - but I'd test this first to make sure spliting the signal doesn't cause either or both decks to not sync.  I think the coax/AES option is probably safer, but either solution should work.

you can run the d100 off a oade cable and then run the coax out of the first oade cable into another oade cable to the m1

yeah, but wouldnt I have to keep the d100 running to pass the signal to the m1?  this is what I wanted to do, but thought it would not work

Nope, won't work.  I've tried this before.  The Oade cable isn't a splitter.  It's linear:  Oade cable input > deck > Oade cable output.  It sends the signal into the deck...then the deck passes it back out.  And the deck will only pass the signal out if in Record or Record/Pause mode.

yeah, i vauguely remember running into this a few years ago.

nick, if you can get your hands on a dap1, run coax to the p1, coax out of p1 to 2nd deck. i believe the p1 won't fall out of pause like the m1/d100.

where's Jason B at? He doesn't have something around the house or at work?

why not just press pause when the d100 gets near the end of the tape.  It will pass a signal in record pause.  I have done this at shows where I had a patcher running a 3 hour tape and I was running a 2hour.  I just hit pause and passed the signal to the patcher so that he would get the complete tape...

the pause on the D100/M1 shuts down after 5 minutes (I think it is) of not being engaged.
