what's wrong with having 3 tapes -- all of the solutions mentinoned below (aes>spdif cable, adaptors, splitters, etc.) are going to run more, $$$-wise, than a third blank dat.

no problem..just like to know my options!  Thanks all for the info...+Ts all around

I taped the first 4 sets... and didn't go near the damn section for the last set ;D

i thnk he saying pause the first deck, change it's tape, then when the second tape runs out you chan change it while the first one is running.

or am i missing something?

Sooooo...how does one change the tape in the first deck (through which the signal flows to the second deck) while it's in Record/Pause mode?

Can't you record to the second deck first, leaving the first deck in record/pause mode until it's needed? I'm pretty sure my D8 will remain in pause mode indefinitely as long as it's powered via AC; is the M1/D100 different?

Not sure if the M1/D100 will remain in pause indefinitely while on AC.  Hmmmmm.  'Course, this brings up the question:  do you have external power for your decks, Nick?

I'm completely stunned by how much traffic / many posts this thread generated!   :o

I BELIEVE that a d7/d8/d100/m1 will pass (and show) levels indefinitely if ONLY the record button is pressed.  I seem to recall that, unlike puttting the deck in record pause, this does not cause the deck to load the tape and spin the heads, which I also believe is the reason the deck eventually drops out of record pause.

I thinkn darrin is right....

when at a show I place my sony deck and all others in record, then just hit pausex2 to get it rolling.

bri;

the m1/d100 will kick out of rec/pause mode after 5min even with external.  both will stay in rec mode (passing signal) indefinitely.

thanks marc...but the show is on friday.  +T for the offer though.  That being said, it looks like it will sit in rec monitor mode indefinitely...this is a good thing!

One thing I just thought of, though...if you go from rec monitor to rec/pause, there might be a hiccup when the tape is loaded rather than passing the signal through the whole time. Unfortunately I don't have two decks to test with...
